Successful Blight Elimination Project Wrap Up
As the State Land Bank Authority's Blight Elimination Program comes to a close, the Sanilac County Land Bank Authority has successfully completed all projects funded through the program, resulting in approximately $365,000 invested in blight removal throughout Sanilac County.
These projects have helped eliminate unsafe and vacant structures, improve neighborhood appearance, and create opportunities for future community investment.
Many residents may remember the demolition of two blighted homes in downtown Sandusky, which made way for expanded public parking. Since then, the Sanilac County Land Bank Authority has continued its efforts by addressing additional blighted properties across the county.
Completed Blight Elimination Projects
4634 Main Street, Applegate – Demolition completed
7219 Huron Street, Lexington – Demolition completed
4031 Main Street, Brown City – Originally planned as a rehabilitation project, the property was later determined to require demolition, which has since been completed.
5531 Elk Street, Peck – Demolition completed
69 Lexington Street, Sandusky – Demolition completed, allowing for expanded downtown parking.
While the Blight Elimination Program is winding down, the impact of these investments will continue to benefit Sanilac County communities for years to come. Removing blighted properties not only enhances the appearance and safety of neighborhoods but also creates opportunities for redevelopment, encourages private investment, and helps strengthen local communities.
