TPMA Selected to Lead Economic Development Strategic Planning for the Huron County EDC

Bad Axe, MI – June 30th, 2025 —Huron County is initiating the development of a comprehensive economic strategy, appointing TPMA as the lead consultant. Renowned nationally for their expertise in economic development planning, TPMA specializes in guiding communities through data-driven, effective solutions aimed at maximizing economic growth. This strategic initiative will create a framework for the Huron County Economic Development Corporation to promote economic vitality, sustainable growth, community well-being, and robust support for local businesses.

Strategic Approach

TPMA will adopt a multi-phase strategy, starting with an assessment of existing plans and data analysis to enhance previous efforts. This process will run alongside outreach activities such as interviews and focus groups to collect diverse insights, ensuring the plan aligns with community needs and aspirations. Employing a design thinking methodology, TPMA will develop innovative, collaborative strategies ready for implementation.

Leadership Perspectives

“The Huron County EDC is embarking on something both exciting and long overdue — the creation of a comprehensive economic development strategy, our first in over 20 years. The last time our organization participated in a thoughtful, community-informed strategic planning process was in 2004. Since then much has changed, especially over the past 18 months, as we’ve undergone a period of significant transformation.

This strategic planning initiative is a monumental next step for us. It will not only guide the work of the EDC over the next five years but also set the foundation for long-term, sustainable impact across our communities.” - Samantha Schnettler, Executive Director of the Huron County EDC

“Huron County is a place of incredible natural beauty, strong rural character, and untapped potential,” said Brett Wiler, Vice President of Economic Development at TPMA. “We’re proud to support the Huron County Economic Development Corporation in creating a strategic plan that honors the county’s agricultural heritage, leverages its natural assets, and builds a vibrant rural economy for current and future generations.”

Next Steps

To guarantee this initiative is impactful and rooted in genuine understanding, the Huron County EDC and TPMA are forming a dedicated Steering Committee to oversee and advise the process. Furthermore, they will create a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan to ensure diverse voices from across the county are actively heard and incorporated into this vital effort.
