Huron County EDC Awarded $50K Grant to Assess EV Charging Infrastructure

HURON COUNTY, MI — July 7, 2025 — The  Huron County Economic Development Corporation has been awarded $50,050.00 through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)’s Community Energy Management Program to conduct an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Assessment across the county.

The assessment will evaluate the current state of EV infrastructure across Huron County and identify strategic locations for future charging stations. The results will guide future investments and increase accessibility.

The Community Energy Management Program (CEM) is designed to meet applicants wherever they are on the energy management spectrum. CEM has helped fund a wide range of energy-related projects, including energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy systems, EV charging stations, sustainable financing solutions, and clean energy workforce development.

“We’re incredibly thankful and excited to receive this funding from EGLE,” said Samantha Schnettler, Executive Director of the Huron County EDC. “Over the past decade, our office has heard from numerous municipal leaders and business owners eager to install EV charging stations but unsure where to begin. This assessment will allow us to take a data-driven approach to identifying high-impact strategic locations, ensuring long-term viability, and connecting local interested partners to funding opportunities. Strengthening our EV infrastructure supports local businesses, enhances visitor experience and accessibility, and contributes to broader economic growth across Huron County.”
