Brownfield Redevelopment

101 W. Huron Avenue, Bad Axe

Huron County Community Foundation Headquarters

Huron County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority was awarded a $600,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant from EGLE in 2021 to help revitalize a downtown building in Bad Axe, MI. This project will redevelop a contaminated site at 101 W. Huron Ave, a .28-acre site that is contaminated with petroleum compounds from its former use as a gasoline filling station that started in 1928 and ran to 1970. It was then utilized as a retail and office space; it has been vacant since 2014. This grant will be used to pay for environmental site assessment, building demolition activities, removal and disposal of contaminated soil, removal of suspected underground storage tanks and the design and installation of a system to prevent subsurface vapors from migrating into the remaining structure. The Huron County Community Foundation will host their new offices and community hub there when the project is completed. To stay update with the project. HCCF Update.
