Shadow flicker is the event where the wind turbine comes between the person and the sun causing an intermittent shadow. The flicker effect happens in houses that live close to a wind turbine and only during sunrise and sundown. If you don't live too close to a wind turbine, then you're not likely to have to worry about the flicker effect.

The flicker can be annoying while reading or watching television, but it can easily be handled by screening the neighboring property with some plants, awnings, or any structure to block it out. Shadow flicker is an inconvenience to those who live really close to a wind turbine.

Some people have raised questions about whether or not the flickering lights can have a negative effect on a person's health. Flashing lights have been known to cause epileptic seizures, but the frequency of the flashing lights is what really matters. Any shadow flicker frequency below 10 Hz is not likely to cause a seizure; however, it's still not a good idea for someone with epilepsy to live in a shadow flicker zone.

Shadow flicker isn't a very common occurrence for a home to deal with, but if it happens the solution is as simple as putting something in the way of the light.
